Shenandoah Medical Center is seeking a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join our surgical services team. Position Overview

The CRNA provides professional anesthesia services and patient care throughout the perioperative process. Responsibilities include preoperative evaluation, administration and monitoring of anesthesia, postoperative care, pain management, and collaboration with the surgical team to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes.


Essential Responsibilities

Anesthesia Care & Patient Management

  • Provide anesthesia services for surgical, obstetrical, and medical procedures
  • Administer general anesthetics and monitor patients throughout procedures
  • Establish and maintain airways utilizing mask, LMA, and endotracheal intubation techniques
  • Monitor and respond to patient vital signs and physiologic status during procedures
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative patient evaluations
  • Assist with acute pain management and patient recovery

Clinical Assessment & Equipment Preparation

  • Prepare and maintain anesthesia medications, supplies, and equipment
  • Assess patient records and identify anesthesia-related risks
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding high-risk patient concerns
  • Ensure proper functionality of anesthesia machines, monitoring systems, and equipment
  • Maintain readiness for emergency situations including blood product availability

Patient Safety & Quality Care

  • Promote patient safety throughout all phases of care
  • Follow all infection control, medication safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor patients utilizing invasive and noninvasive monitoring systems
  • Participate in departmental safety and quality improvement activities

Documentation & Communication

  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation within the electronic medical record system
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, nursing staff, and healthcare team members
  • Report patient condition changes and collaborate on care planning

Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, CMS, OSHA, Joint Commission, and State of Iowa regulations
  • Adhere to current anesthesia practice standards and organizational policies

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned
