Shenandoah Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our Radiology team. Position Overview
The Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing radioactive materials and advanced imaging equipment to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment. This role also supports radiation safety initiatives, patient education, quality assurance, and departmental operations.
Essential Responsibilities
Nuclear Medicine & Imaging Procedures
- Perform nuclear medicine procedures utilizing radioactive materials according to established protocols
- Assist with the administration of therapeutic radioactive materials and complete required documentation
- Perform imaging procedures including Nuclear Medicine, X-ray, CT, Bone Density, and mobile radiology procedures
- Assess patients to determine their ability to tolerate imaging procedures safely and effectively
- Adjust imaging protocols and procedures in collaboration with providers, radiologists, and department leadership as appropriate
Radiation Safety & Compliance
- Serve as a radiation safety educator for Shenandoah Medical Center
- Maintain radiation safety documentation, reporting badges, and monitoring programs
- Prepare for radiation safety committee meetings in collaboration with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
- Follow ALARA and Image Gently guidelines to minimize radiation exposure
- Ensure proper shielding and radiation safety practices for patients, staff, and visitors
Equipment & Department Operations
- Maintain imaging equipment and ensure proper operation and functionality
- Troubleshoot equipment and protocol-related issues as needed
- Serve as a primary trainer and resource in nuclear medicine procedures and protocols
- Maintain department supplies and ensure equipment cleanliness and infection control compliance
Patient Care
- Prepare and educate patients regarding imaging procedures and expectations
- Verify patient identification, medical history, and exam preparation requirements
- Respond appropriately to patient and family needs throughout the imaging process
- Assist with emergency response and first aid when needed
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation and imaging records
- Ensure proper charge capture and reporting within the EHR system
- Collaborate effectively with providers, radiologists, and healthcare team members regarding patient care and imaging findings
- Report changes in patient condition appropriately and promptly
