Shenandoah Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Operating Room team. This role provides the opportunity to work closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical staff while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care throughout the surgical experience.

Position Overview
The RN – Operating Room utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care throughout the perioperative experience. This role supports patients before, during, and after surgical procedures while promoting safety, quality outcomes, and compassionate care.
Essential Responsibilities
Patient Care & Nursing Practice
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and implement individualized plans of care
- Monitor patient condition and respond appropriately to changes in status
- Administer medications, treatments, and intravenous interventions safely and effectively
- Serve as a patient advocate and provide compassionate, professional care
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
- Communicate effectively regarding patient condition, care plans, and outcomes
- Provide patient and family education throughout the surgical experience
Operating Room Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the operating room environment and sterile field
- Ensure instruments, supplies, and surgical equipment are available and functioning properly
- Assist with patient positioning and maintain patient safety throughout procedures
- Support surgeons and surgical staff during procedures while maintaining quality and efficiency
- Provide emotional support and communication to patients and families during the surgical process
Post-Anesthesia Recovery Care
- Perform Phase 1 recovery assessments and monitoring as assigned
- Monitor respiratory, cardiac, neurologic, and surgical recovery status
- Administer medications and manage IV lines during recovery care
- Communicate patient status effectively during recovery handoff
Documentation & Safety
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
- Follow infection control, medication safety, and surgical safety standards
- Participate in quality improvement and regulatory compliance initiatives
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
